I have a few too many IDE 3.5" hard drives sitting around doing nothing.
I had thought to stick a couple into an external enclosure, but could never find the right kind. The right kind for me includes: fan, power switch.
Lucky for me I found the Rosewill RX355-U 3.5" USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure. Not only does it come with a fan, the fan can be removed. The fan sits in a plastic cage that attaches to the broad side of the enclosure -- with is also the side with some air holes. The entire enclosure can be put into the included stand for vertical placement or laid horizontal to rest on the fan. The fan cage has rubber feet for just this purpose. Now that is some good thinking.
